TechTop competetion in Technopark


TechTop 2008, a competition for the best engineering project to be held at the Technopark campus here in August. The two-day event, beginning on August 18, will be organised by Technopark and the Indian arm of the US-based Degree Controls Inc. and supported by the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Executive Knowledge Lines.

The competition is held to promote the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among students. The selected projects will be eligible for incubation support from Technopark. The most innovative, socially relevant and commercially exploitable projects will be eligible for the Degree C award comprising a cash prize Rs.1 lakh.

The theme for this year’s contest is ‘Rural technology and global warming.’

Earlier this year, project synopses were received from about 1400 AICTE-approved colleges and universities in the country. Over 90 project synopses were also received from 12 States namely, Haryana, UP, Arunachal Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The project ideas were in the disciplines of Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Chemical, and Textile Technology

Now, 33 projects are short listed.of these, 33 have been selected by a high-level screening committee comprising subject experts drawn from the academia, industry and research institutions for the final phase of the competition to be held in Technopark. The working models of the projects will be demonstrated before a high level committee.

“The motto behind this contest is to promote and reward innovative ideas of our budding engineers and to create and innovation and entrepreneurship climate in India,” says Technopark CEO, R K Nair.

In 2007, the Degree C cash prize was won by Kongu Engineering College from Tamil Nadu for their radio frequency identification-based rationing system. The second prize of Rs.25,000 went to PES College from Maharashtra for their project ‘aqua silencer.’

Technopark is doing a great job by promoting the ideas and talents of young engineers in the country. the students are getting a golden opportunity to showcase their talents in both business and technology, if it has a potential it will be sponsored and funding and infrastructures will be provided by the technopark with the help of various institutions. Many companies started with just an idea in the technopark incubation space. Torque is the best example. it was one of the success storied told by the student
