KSRTC Bus Services from Technopark

Good news to all techies..Technopark has arranged for KSRTC bus services to ply from Technopark to Kollam and Kochi.
Please make a note of the timings and the routes:
To and fro Kollam: Shuttle service begins from Monday, 22nd from Kollam KSRTC bus stand to Technopark. The bus reaches Technopark at 8:30 am. The return trip from Technopark begins at 6:30 pm.

To Kochi: KSRTC has introduced a long distance bus service to Cochin from the Technopark campus on all Fridays. One bus will go to Cochin via Kottayam (MC road) and the other will go to Cochin via Quilon-Alleppey (NH).
Buses would start from Park Centre (near Water Tank) at 5:00 pm, every Friday.

Techies are advised to make use of this service.

The Economic Times apologised to UST Global for the incorrect story it published. The Bangalore Bureau of ET carried a story on UST Global on Monday, 25 August 2008, about the possibility of the Comcraft Group selling its stake in UST Global.

This report came at a time when UST Global marked its ninth anniversary celebrations over the weekend. This report caused major concern among employees and clients of the company. It was a totally baseless and irresponsible report according to the Sajan Pillai, CEO of UST Global. “The Comcraft Group and UST Global took this up with The Economic Times, and the Chief of Bureau has personally apologised to us for this misrepresentation of the facts by the reporter”, he Said

Kingfisher adopts IBS’ cargo solution

Technopark-based IT solution provider IBS’ cargo solutions have made their successful entry into the air cargo industry in the country with Kingfisher Airlines becoming the first user of their iCargoNet worldwide.

The airline has started using IBS’ iCargoNet, a Software as a Service (SaaS) version of IBS’ airline Cargo Management System (CMS), iCargoGold.

It manages the cargo business of the airline from planning, sales, operations, ground handling to cargo revenue accounting and revenue optimisation functions in an integrated and cost-effective manner.

The implementation comes at a time when Kingfisher Airlines is seeking to grow its cargo business in the domestic market while optimizing its cost of operations.

Ghost in Technopark?

It is an experience of a Technopark employee who traveled through the Technopark back gate road( university campus road), explained a very strange experience.

this is what she said to technoparktoday.

“I am working in a private firm in technopark. due to some work yesterday, i was held back and delayed my return to home.

around 9:30pm, i started from office in my scooter and was passing through the back entrance road (karyavatom - thripadapuram road) i chose this road b’cos this was recently tarred and a better, smooth road and i was afraid of taking the kazhakootam road due to fear of hooligan activities recently.

as soon as i passed out of the back entrance, a jeep hurried across me from the opposite side and applied a sudden break. lukily i maintained my balance and was not thrown out of my scooty.

when i crossed the first hump in the road itself, the current wen tout and it was completely dark. there were no lights from the nearby houses and the silence marred the cloudy atmosphere which even more added to the fiery nite. the little light in my scooty helped me propel to my target. i accelerated my vehicle. suddenly i noticed something moving in front of me some meters far somewhat near to the right turn in the road. i applied the breaks of my vehicle as it turned out to be a completely strange thing. it had the height of 2 persons mounted to each other and was fatter than a normal person. a dark blanket covered the whole ‘thing’ and it was moving (floating) towards the university road. as soon as the thing went out of sight, i rushed with my vehicle with a little life in my body.

later i explained this shocking story to family but they wont believe..”

What you think? still we can argue that its 21 century, digital world. but how can we neglect the real life incednts and experiences by many folks? this is not the first time we are hearing about such experiences in technopark back gate.As many people says,Karyavattom Campus road is a haunted place, that area is said to be a physically sensitive place, as described in history.

Technopark needs to be vigil upon terrorist attacks?

In the scene of series of attacks happened during the past 2 days, the fear is still in the air.Being the major IT destination in kerala, Technopark Trivandrum is also one of the potential target of the terrorists. More than 15,000 IT professionals are working here, and the security measures are not up to the mark to effectively protect any of such incidents that may happen.

Yesterday’s attack in Bangalore was targeted to the IT companies, Being the IT capital of India, any such attack will lead to the total insecurity for the professionals and IT companies. One of the major employment providers in the country is the IT industry . So any attack targeted to the IT industry cause an insecurity feeling among the youngsters in the country.

Come back to Technopark, Its situated apparently in a remote location, and no security measures are deployed to protect the employees from any such threats, other than the vehicle pass checking by the group4 securities in its main entrances. Anybody can forge such a sticker and put in the vehicles, so it cannot be considered as an effective way. And they are writing down the registration numbers of every vehicle, entering and leaving the technopark. As an icon of Information Technology and related services Technopark is still in the stone age in its security related aspects.

Anybody can enter in to the technopark premises easily. It is found that the mobile and credit card representatives are intruding to the technopark premises without any proof or identification. They normally take a lift from a few hundred meters away from the technopark gate. The securities will never mind if the driver has the identity tag. So anybody can easily enter in to the technopark and they can easily override all the security facilities there. Technopark employed dozens of security persons, but all of them are busy to quarrel with people, who miserably looking for a space to park their vehicles.

So it is a high time to seriously think about the security in technopark. The digital surveillance cameras and related security equipments are easily available in the market. at least they can install a few such cameras in various locations within the campus ,within the buildings and its lifts, 15,000 employees are not a small crowd, if something happened, the outcome will be much worse than what we can imagine now.

UST Global to extend SAM impelementation

UST Global is looking to extend implementation of Microsoft's Software Asset Management (SAM) to its two centers in India as well as global centers in Philippines, Malaysia and Vancouver in Canada.

The company is looking to deploy the solution to its India centers in Kochi and Chennai within the next three to six months. The first round of implementation was started in its Trivandrum centre in November last year and was completed by January 2008.

Today, July 26, 2008 marks the ninth anniversary of “Operation Vijay” which was engineered to flush out the infiltrators and indigenous militants from Kargil, one of the toughest mountain warfare fought till date. This day, "Kargil Vijay Divas" is being celebrated to pay homage to our soldiers, who laid their lives during the 2 month long conflict from May 26, 1999 to July 26, 1999.

Nine years ago, around this time our valiant Indian Army was battling on the rough, rocky and glacial terrain stretching from Zoji-La Pass to the Siachen Glacier to evict the perfidious aggression in this high altitude sector. However, our Army thwarted this attempt by the intruders to conquer the rugged heights of Kargil. Unfortunately this military campaign to repel the intrusion left about 525 brave men dead and another 1,400 wounded.

Now, today, on this Kargil Vijay Divas,

It’s an occasion to mourn!
It’s an occasion to rejoice!
But it’s also an occasion; a moment of despair and indignation!

For the reason being the authorities concerned have conveniently forgotten the officers and brave jawans who laid down their lives to uphold our nation’s honour and dignity. We totally concur with what the Retd. General V P Malik said, “The martyrs of wars and those who sacrificed their lives in proxy wars are not being given their due.” We also regret for the level of Government support to families of fallen war heroes. It is inadequate and they feel alienated and uncared-for.

How many of us still remember Captain Vikram Batra (Yeh Dil Maange More!), Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav, Lieutenant Saurabh Kalia et al. Captain Vikram Batra, the brave 24-year-old youth who was a Lieutenant at the beginning of the war was later promoted to captain on the battlefield. The man who strove to make it to the Indian Army and died happily on duty for his nation. This Pepsi catchline which Captain Batra told his commander at base camp, later became the catchline for the Kargil war. At last, Operation Vijay saw more than 400 young blood laying down their lives for our nation.

I wonder! What does it take our state, bureaucracy and “babus” to instill a small amount of patriotism and nationalism for commemoration? It is sad, but it is true, for all those brave men, who protected our country by laying down their lives in the Operation Vijay or any other earlier wars, there are no remembrance. Does our country appreciate its son's exemplary valour? It still remains quandary!

Having said that, the grit and determination of our warriors would continue to serve as a beacon not only for the valiant soldiers of our country but also for the generations to come. Their fearlessness and deed stands as a guiding light to believe in the strength and steely resolve of our motherland unequivocally and authoritatively!

For the men who gave their lives today for our safer tomorrow…Valorous Soldiers…
We salute you for laying down your lives for a noble cause - to safeguard our beloved nation!
We salute you for demonstrating that remarkable spirit of patriotism, paramount courage and for offering supreme sacrifices in your lofty struggle for upholding our national pride!

We believe, the time is apposite for remembering the following motto which gets molded into the hearts of hundreds of Gentleman Cadets -

Addressing a press conference here in this connection, HBS mangaing director K.G. Technopark based IT giant,California-headquartered UST Global, which has a major presence in Kerala's IT industry, in a statement here said the tie-up would help Dana improve its operational efficiencies and lower total cost of ownership.

Daylight robbery by auto rickshaw drivers in Technopark

Day light robbery is happening in Technopark now a days by the auto rickshaw drivers near Technopark especially in kazhakootam and karyavatoom autostand. They always demand for double fare for the technopark trips .and they wouldn't shut up till they get what they want. it seems there is nobody to control them. many complaints were registered in the kazhakkotam police station by the technopark employees, but still there is no change in the auto drivers attitude.

People who are financially sound have their own vehicles and they are unaware of what the kazhakoottam autorickshaw drivers are demanding from a passenger for a single trip from kazhakootam to technopark.

It’s barely 2 kms from kazhakootam to technopark (bhavani). For a normal trip they can charge only a max of Rs.20/- for 2 kms. But here in kazhakootam the story is entirely different. They are charging a min of Rs.30/- and a max of Rs.60/-. This is intolerable as far as a normal person is concerned.

Things will become more worse when the female employees are traveling in auto.If they find that the passenger is a girl then they start demanding for more money. And if the girl is not ready to pay the amount, then God only knows what all Malayalam bad words she is going to hear from that person for that moment.

Because of the Technopark, the auto ppl getting more and frequent trips, literally hundrads of technoparkians are commuting daily in this manner. female employees and north indian ppl are the main preys of this rude auto drivers. Only Technopark authorities and Kazhakkootam police joinlty can do something to stop it, a better solution is to provide a pay in advance ( fixed fare ) auto stand, then only we can put an end for this daylight robbery.

Related News : Rape attempt on Software Engineer by an auto driver

It happened a few months back, A software engineer escaped a rape attempt by an Auto driver last week in Trivandrum. The techie who missed her morning company bus had taken an auto for Technopark from her hostel in the city. She was taken to a secluded place and an attempt was made to rape and when that failed, to rob her by the Auto driver and his friend who joined them en route.

The employee of the leading Software Company in Technopark realized that the auto driver was taking her elsewhere. “When asked, he said it’s a different route as there was some deviation on the main road. Later he stopped in some weird location and tried to pull my dress and attacked me. When I jumped out, he pulled my chain… it broke but luckily fell in my hand and then I ran. Somehow I got back home. I couldn’t have gone to office in those torn clothes”, says this girl who’s lucky to have got away with just bruises on her face, neck and hands.

This Techie from Chennai who has been in Trivandrum for a year has no clue about the place nor could she write down the vehicle number. The senior management has taken it up with the City Police Commissioner but it’s going to be difficult task to nab the culprits in the absence of details.

Most companies in Technopark ply a single bus trip to office in the morning, unlike other cities where there are multiple trips. If one misses the bus, its difficult reaching office as local bus connectivity is poor. “We have no option but to pay up the exorbitant rates demanded by auto drivers. Not to say the risk we take by getting into an Auto”, says Gopika* who works in Infosys. The auto drivers ask for a fare in excess of double meter reading for a trip to Technopark.

There have been similar incidents of harassment and molestation of Software Engineers by Auto drivers in Trivandrum in the recent past. This brings up the safety issue of Technopark employees. Meanwhile, this Techie who had joined this company as a fresher has put in her papers as she’s had enough of Trivandrum.

Asian School of Business to set up own campus Near Technopark

Asian School of Business (ASB) is investing Rs 63 crore to set up its own campus near Technopark.16 acres of land at Pallipuram, near Kazhakoottam where Technopark is located, has been identified for the new campus and the plan is ready.

An investment of Rs 63 crore is envisaged and the B-school will move out of its leased premises at Technopark as soon as the first phase becomes operational.Spread over three phases, the first phase of the campus will be completed by the middle of next year. It is expected to incur a cost of around Rs 30 crore

Work on second and third phases is scheduled to begin by the last quarter of 2009 and early 2011 respectively. While the second phase is estimated to cost Rs 12 crore, the third phase would involve Rs 21 crore.

On completion of the first stage, the ASB campus will have 1,20,000 sft of space and comprise a conference hall, library, hostel to accommodate 150 students, guest house, cafeteria and recreation facilities. It will accommodate 200 students.

When the second stage gets over in about three years, ASB will have additional classrooms and more accommodation for students and staff. Once the phase two of the campus is built, the plan is to have entrepreneur and management development centres to offer residential training programmes for senior executives.

The institute will also house a business incubator in the next few years.ASB, which offers a two-year post graduate management programme, will be Kerala's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified green building and campus.

anyway after the commencement of the technocity project, the prices of the nearby places got rocketed high. and its is reported that it reached up to 17 Lakh/cent!

The real estate mafia and the land brokers are taking the advantage of the techno city project. and so the same reason so many people believes that the technocity is a hype made up of the real estate mafia in trivandrum.

Giving shape to its first regional incubation centre, the Thiruvananthapuram Technopark has formed an Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and a Virtual Technology Business Incubator at the LBS College of Engineering in Kasaragod.

The IT park's Technopark Business Incubation (TBI) centre would be offering support to the engineering college for coordinating the effective conduct of the Entrepreneurship Development Activities thus maintaining the status of a Regional TBI in the state, a Technopark official said.

K C Chandrasekharan Nair, CFO, Technopark and Programme Coordinator-New Initiatives, Technopark TBI inaugurated the EDC. According to Nair the objective of forming the EDC is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the campus.

Another objective is to exploit and effectively convert the skills and expertise within the institute to create entrepreneurial ventures.

Technopark already incubated more than 70 start up technology companies in its incubation facilities in the past five years with a success rate of over 90 per cent, Nair said the National Award for the Best Technology Business Incubator for 2007 and a Seed Funding Assistance of Rs 200 lakh instituted by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) of the Department of Science and Technology, have come the Technopark way due to this.

Meanwhile, the entrepreneurship development activities of the LBS College of Engineering would offer support to spot and incubate innovative ideas among the students into marketable products and to incubate them in the TBI.

On friday evening when I took out my car from Technopark I noticed that fuel level was nil. Surprisingly that morning I had put in Rs 500 worth of Petrol.

First I thought that fuel meter had some problem but the car stopped immediately as I crossed the back gate .

I rang up popular service and they send across a person .He showed me that the tube connecting to the fuel tank was disconnected.

Further I learned from him that the person whoever did was a real expert as this tube is clipped to the filter and when we looked at it the clip was removed and was slipped up the tube.

earlier also we reported many fuel theft incidents near the Nila building, especially from the bikes of employees working in night shifts. technopark deployed many securities in parking areas and all, but still the theft continues, and more such incidents are being reported daily.

Nine IT majors in the race for developing Technocity

Larsen & Toubro, Raheja and Suzlon are among the nine major groups who have come forward for developing the Technocity, the-state-of-the-art IT township set up by the State Government on 500 acres in the state capital.

Emaar MGF, Maytas, Sun Forrester, SREI, Brigade and Ramki are the other major groups that have responded to the request-for-qualification’ (RfQ) invited by the Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited (KSITI) for developing IT and IT-Enabled Service projects at the Technocity as well as the third-phase of the Technopark. The RfQ was released on May 28. The last date for submitting applications was June 30.

A committee headed by Chief Secretary P.J.Thomas will scrutinise the applications. The committee will have Secretaries of IT, Industry, Finance and Law Departments and Chief Executive Officers of the Technopark and the Infopark as its members. Those who do not satisfy the conditions prescribed in the tender notice would be rejected. The Cabinet should approve the final list of developers for the Technocity.

IT Secretary Ajay Kumar said that the land acquisition process for the Technocity at Pallipuram, around five km away from the Technopark, was progressing and the construction works were expected to begin within six months. The Technocity would have all the facilities of a town, including a school and a hospital, on its premises.

While 70 percent of the space would be utilised for IT-related activities, the remaining area would be utilised for other supporting infrastructure. The projects would be developed on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP)-basis with the KSITI holding 26 percent equity.

The developers will have to form a `special purpose vehicle’ (SPV) for executing the project. The SPV will be responsible for designing, engineering, financing, procurement, construction, marketing, operation and maintenance of the project. The project will be carried out in three different ranges - IT/ITES project for parcel size up to 50 acres; IT/ITES Project for parcel size greater than 50 and up to 100 acres; IT/ITES Project for parcel size greater than 100 acres.

debugging activities. Guillaume has presented his work at
numerous international conferences. He also taught lectures
based on the Professor Krishnamurthi's books, Programming
Languages and Interpretation, as well as How to Design

Sam Manekshaw - Epitome of valor and brilliance!

Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, alias Sam Bahadur, the first Field Marshal (Jan 1, 1973) in the Indian army was truly one of India's greatest soldiers. He had inspired India's younger generation - a whole generation indeed!

Sam Bahadur was the architect and the inspiring leader of the operation which gave India its greatest military victory in the 1971 war. He truly embodied all traits that one associates with the best in the Indian Army. His strategic brilliance, inspirational leadership, shrewd tactics, uncanny ability to motivate the forces are all well-known. He showed acumen for immaculate planning and impeccable administration. He joined the first batch of cadets at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

He is a Military Cross awardee for taking the seven bullets from a Japanese machine gun which whipped through his body while fighting in the deep jungles of Burma. The man who sported his trademark handlebar moustache was also witty, forthright and approachable to a fault.

The country honoured him with Padma Bhushan in 1968 and Padma Vibhushan in 1972.

IT exports from Kerala touch Rs 1,568 cr

With more companies opening shop in the State, export of IT products from Kerala reached Rs 1,568 crore in 2007-08.71 new companies started units in the State-run Technopark in Trivandrum Infopark in Kochi during the last two years. These companies created direct employment to the tune of 22,500 and nearly three times more of indirect jobs.

the IT infrastructure in the State was being expanded. For one, the Government had decided to set up IT parks in all the districts in the State, besides strengthening the facilities in Technopark and Infopark. All these put together would create additional 88 lakh sq.ft. of IT space in the State,t work had commenced for establishing a technocity near Trivandrum, a cyberpark in Kozhikode and IT parks in the districts of Thrissur, Kasargod, Kollam, Alappuzha and Kannur.

That new hump near water tank came up on last Monday, with the intention of checking speeding of vehicles.Good, but the place is not properly lit, and the stripe painting on the hump can be mistaken to be a pedestrian crossing at night.Several car drivers had their car-jumping skills tested, and a bike (driver saw the new ‘bulge’ too late) was thrown off at 9:30 P.M on Monday itself.

The driver of the bike was knocked off unconscious, and taken to the hospital in the technopark ambulance. (latest status not known)

Speeding vehicles need to be checked, but not by putting crude ‘mountains’ on unlit roads without any sign-boards, or with proper e-mail communication to the companies in Technopark.It’s easy to dismiss this saying the drivers need to be careful, but the ‘skulls’ who put this should not play with the lives of people here.

If only the so-called guardians of traffic show the same interest as ‘shouting at drivers’ in posting a traffic regulator there, we could save some precious lives.The traffic regulator, if posted at the spot, could at least warn the drivers until lights/signboards are in place.

Technopark authorities introduced a couple of new rules in technopark, including the entry restrictions in bhavani portico.

Tata Elxsi harassing its employees in Technopark?

A recent incident happened in Tata Elxsi proved once again that the IT employees are insecure and highly vulnerable to the violation of human right policies and politics in IT companies.

Very recently an engineer in Tata Elxsi is refused for an immediate relocation from Trivandrum to pune. He got the relocation information,when he joined soon after his marriage. Suddenly the company took its revenge by disabling his workstation access and access to the company premises. Thus he is forced to resign the company. A number of Technopark companies including Tata Elxsi is infamous among the techies because of their employee unfriendly HR policies.

At this point, we need to think about the serious violation of human rights as well employee rights happening in companies within Technopark. We are not supporting that particular employee, but the company could have consider any other engineers working in the same section ( because he is newly wedded, and he has some personal issues for an immediate relocation). That’s why the HR wing is there, they should be responsible to understand the professional as well as personal issues of a particular employee working there.

More or less, similar incidents are happening in various companies within Technopark. But a very few of them are known to us, because the victims are forced to find another job for his survival, and the IT employees are highly disintegrated, so they can’t do anything against the company in case of such serious human rights violations.

Similar incidents are happened earlier too, a few complaints were raised against the company named 'Toroid', about its human right violation policies, and it has got the media attention. And a few officers came to investigate about it. But you know they came along with the company top management. Do you think any single employee is ready to complain against the company in the presence of the senior management? So the total exercise was a hoax. Technopark authorities should take necessary controls to make sure that, no such incidents are happening in future.

Here we are appending a few words from one of the comments by the viewer, it depicts the pathetic situations in some Technopark IT companies.

"The major problem is politics in professional enviroment. The Manger and HR who is having good contact with higher management is hiding all information to higher authorities and threaten their sub-ordinates to work day and night and sat and sunday and at the end of successful completion project the credit goes to bullshit managers"

As part of the Software Partner Programme (ISPP), Intel would give independent software vendors the tools and resources they need to enable, market, and sell innovative applications that run on intel technologies and platforms ranging from mobile to multi-core to virtualisation technology.

Speaking to newspersons here, Intel Software and Solutions Group (Asia Pacific) director Narendra Bhandari said Intel would be a strategic consultant to each of the member companies by providing them with a spectrum of marketing, technical and financial opportunities, thereby facilitating business growth.

The participating companies would get several benefits under the programme. The Intel Capital, the company's strategic investment programme, would identify potential investment opportunities amongst Technopark members, he said.

Technopark Chief Executive Officer N Radhakrishnan said together with Intel, Technopark was exploring qualified business opportunities that would benefit the member companies in their go-to-market strategies and stay competitive through unique marketing models and execution projects.

1. All private vehicles conveying Bhavani building staff will stop at the BUS BAY marked in front of Thejeswani building. No vehicles will enter the portico of Bhavani building or stop in front of the Bus stop adjacent to Park centre.

2. Hereafter the Bhavani portico will be used by CEOs & Guest vehicles only.

3. All the vehicles used by various company staff will come in through the level gate of Bhavani opposite to Thejeswani main entrance for parking and go out through the same gate where sufficient arrangements for IN & OUT going vehicles have been made.

4. Two wheelers should park in the parking slots already marked for 2 wheelers.

5. The IN & OUT going two wheelers should obey the traffic rules and guidance of the Security guards.

6. All Three wheelers should stop at the Bus Bay area and not enter the portico of Bhavani building.

7. All company cabs will stop in front of Bhavani where it is marked for them only. They will not enter the portico.

A new development strategy for Technocity, Trivandrum

Kerala Govt has decided to adopt a multiple-developer strategy for setting up the 500-acre Technocity IT township near Pallipuram, Trivandrum

Working with multiple developers will make it possible to spread the risks associated with the project and will also encourage healthy competition among the developers, This approach will help ensure that the entire project is not held up if one developer runs into any delays.The investment in land and basic infrastructure alone is expected to be around Rs 1,500 crore, Dr Ajay Kumar said. When completed, the Technocity is expected to employ around 1.5 lakh people in the IT and ITES sectors, he added. The space used by the IT and ITES companies will have special economic zone status.

According to the project’s master plan that is being finalised, developers can bid for parcels of land based on their requirements, . Currently, the plan is to offer parcels of land that are smaller than 50 acres; parcels that vary in size from 50 to 100 acres; and parcels of land that are more than 100 acres

Around 50 acres of land in Technocity will be retained for the expansion of the existing Technopark,. This land will be developed with the model used to develop Technopark

Land in Technocity has also been set aside for residential purposes, an education hub and a commercial zone with hotels, multiplexes and other retail space. Approximately 25 acres has been earmarked for social amenities such as a hospital and a club.

Common infrastructure for the project will be developed by the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Ltd. This company will also form special purpose vehicles (SPV) with each of the selected developers and will have a stake of up to 26 per cent in each such SPV.

Kerala State IT Infrastructure Ltd is currently acquiring land for Technocity and is also evaluating potential developers through a ‘request for qualification’ process.

IBS Software, headquartered in Technopark here in Kerala, has signed a deal with Oman Air for fleet management using two of their products. Avient Crew is a sophisticated crew management system which will enhance decision support capability for crew management needs of Oman Air, the software firm said in a statement here on last Tuesday.

The system will assist in automatically generating cost-effective rosters that comply with regulatory requirements, airport restrictions, crew training, licensing and airline-specific requirements, as well as efficiently manage crew changes.

Avient Fleet will enable Oman Air to plan aircraft schedules and maintenance, continuously monitor all flight movements, ensure improved on-time performance for its fleet, and provide touch points to identify and alert controllers to help minimize disruptions to the operating schedule.

The captains of IT firms in Technopark have clubbed in against the Trivandrum Golf Club takeover in unison, dubbing the move as “taken in haste”. While other State governments were trying to promote golf, the Kerala government was trying to end an existing golf course, they pointed out. There are 120-odd Companies working from Technopark, about 12 kms away from Trivandrum Golf Club.

According to G-TEC, the Group of Technopark Companies, the takeover of Trivandrum Golf Club may give “negative signal to the investor community.” Sunil Gupta, a spokesman of GTEC said, here in a release, that some IT firms which invested in Kerala in 1994 were promised a golf club within Technopark. With the current priority of more buildings, this promise was unlikely to materialise, Gupta argued.

The Kerala High Court, meanwhile, has asked the Kerala government to return the possession of Trivandrum Golf Club to club members on Tuesday. The State revenue officials had effected the acquistion on last Monday.

Stale food seized from Technopark Restaurants

We reported many times about the low quality high priced food in technopark restaurants. and finally they've got a nice pudding yesterday.

A special squad of the city corporation raided hotels and canteens on the Technopark campus at Kazhakoottam and other places in the city and seized large quantity of stale food on Wednesday.

The stale food included parottas, chappathis, pickles, bread, cake, cooked rice and chicken curry. The raid also unearthed stocks of reused oil.

The squad issued notice to the Café Mojo located in the Gayatri building on the Technopark campus, Amrita Restaurant and Rangoli restaurant on the Nila complex and a canteen in the Tata Consultancy Services building.

The squad filed a complaint with the police after the security personnel at the TCS complex tried to prevent them from inspecting the canteen and taking away the stale food. Health Inspector P. Ajayakumar who led the operation said the police had to be called in after the security staff blocked the exit of the squad members who were in uniform.

All the restaurants within technopark campus is charging very unreasonable prices for the food items. they are not hygienic or the quality of food is not up to the level which they are charging for. It seems Technopark authorities are not having any such criterias on how to operate restaurants in technopark.

Many restaurants are working in various buildings in technopark. each of them are second to none in serving low quality food for unreasonable prices. So many Technoparkians ,those who are having their own vehicles are managed to go out for their food. thus the rest of the crowd mostly the female employees are being the preys of this day light robbery that cannot be justified by any means.

Pre-monsoon Cleaning Drive 2008 in Technopark, Trivandrum by IT professionals

It was altogether a very different experience, a first of its kind for the local residents at the Kazhakuttom bypass leading to Technopark on May 13, 2008. They were witnessing a handful of young software professionals who had rolled up their sleeves on to clean the road and nearby areas leading to Technopark, after five days of working on the keyboard in the splendid air-conditioned glass-and-chrome buildings. This was a concerted effort by the Color Green Task force at UST Global, and it was part of the intensive "Pre-monsoon Cleaning Drive 2008" at the Technopark Campus and nearby areas. For contributing and making it a success, these pros had joined hands with the Government of Kerala, Corporation of Trivandrum and Technopark authorities. Each of them volunteered passionately for this novel and noble sanitation mission in removing weeds, overgrown vegetation, and helped scavenging & cleaning.

Contrary to the belief and presumption, they did not use any of the sophisticated cleaning machines, instead used mattocks and pickaxes when they ventured out in for this mission. Most of them were seen competing to remove the weeds with vigor and enthusiasm. They had cleaned the roads with brooms and used metal plates for scraping the dirt. Finally, they disposed off the garbage to dumps and returned fulfilled & gratified. The volunteers certainly enjoyed this unique physical work involved in de-weeding and cleaning. This sanitation mission was also aimed at sensitising the fellow professionals about the need for cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation.

Meanwhile, they also have formulated plans to actively contribute in creating awareness on pollution control, waste management, help tackle environmental issues by planting of saplings in different parts of Kerala in association with Social Forestry, facilitating different programs related to conservation of environment etc.

With this mission, these groups of IT pros were also conveying a strong message that for a democracy to be effective, one of the most important requisites is that the people should participate in the process. They were also accentuating the fact that sanitation is not the responsibility of the local self-government institutions or city corporations alone, the public have a prominent role in maintaining hygiene and cleanliness. For this to happen there has to be a change in the mindset of the people. Let’s hope that programs like these would create more awareness among the common man, educated youth and young professionals.

Time has come for introspection, and each of us must understand that we have to give up the habit of dumping garbage in the neighborhood, locality, public places, ponds and canals. Yes, public health is everyone’s concern and responsibility. And, each of us must possess the zeal and drive to save our country from pollution to make it a better place to live in.

Toonz Academy, a premier training institute in 3D and 2D animation, backed by the studio major Toonz Animation India, has expanded its animation training facilities by opening centres in Ahmedabad and Indore.

This is in line with plans to further its operations in more strategic locations.

‘Mostly Ghostly,’ the popular children’s book series by best-selling author R.L. Stine, is set to storm the silver screen.

Produced by Toonz Animation, a Technopark- based animation studio, the feature film is expected to hit theatres across the world later this year.

Toonz Animation announced here on Wednesday that Universal Studios had bagged the distribution rights of the film.

Based on the first in the eight-book Mostly Ghostly series, the film chronicles the eerie adventures of an 11-year-old outcast Max as he protects Nicky and Tara – the sibling ghosts who live in his house –from the fume-spewing demon Phears.

Formerley foreseeing the huge demand of 2D animators for the rapidly growing animation industry in India, Toonz had launched its first 2D Animation Academy with an international faculty in Thiruvananthapuram to train eligible candidates at international standards.

Technopark company UST Global getting ready to public.

UST Global Inc., a technology outsourcing company with big operations in Technopark, Trivandrum getting ready to possibly go public next year.

UST Global isn’t deterred by a sluggish stock market and higher costs associated with being a public company, according to Chief Executive Sajan Pillai.

“We have plans to go public, and we are looking at the right timing,” he said. “We find the environment to be very good for the kind of business we do. Our intention is to continue to grow and to give some liquidity to our associates.”

The company, which has some 100 workers here, is reshuffling its executive suite, organizing the company into business units and gearing up for an initial public offering, which could happen sometime in the second half of 2009 if the company reaches the $500 million yearly sales mark.

Going public “is expensive, more expensive than ever before, so we want to get to a critical mass,” Pillai said. “We had to create a leadership structure to sustain this type of growth.”

Four members of the company’s team were promoted to executive roles, including Pillai, who previously was president and chief operating officer.

Satendra “Dan” Gupta, who was chief executive for four years, stayed on as chairman. Three other executives are set to be chief financial and operations officers.

Pillai said he thinks Wall Street could embrace UST’s profits.

“It’s a highly valued business because we get 15% to 20% net margins,” he said.

UST does traditional business consulting and handles services outsourced by companies.

It competes with consulting kingpins such as Accenture Ltd., Electronic Data Systems Corp., which is set to be bought by Hewlett-Packard Co. for $14 billion, Deloitte Consulting LLP and others. It also squares off with big Indian outsourcing operations, including Infosys Technologies LLC, WiPro Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., a unit of Tata Group, and Satyam Computer Services Ltd.

Customers

Customers include Lake Forest-based Apria Healthcare Group Inc., Carnival Corp.’s Princess Cruise Lines Ltd. and San Diego’s Sempra Energy.

UST’s customers include two of the top five healthcare companies in North America and three of the top five movie studios in Southern California.

Another biggie is retail—UST counts three of the top 10 retail chains as customers, Pillai said.

The company got its start in 1999 with three founders and has grown to more than 5,000 workers worldwide, most in India.

It’s funded by the investment arm of India’s Comcraft Group, a company with about $6 billion in yearly sales that makes steel, plastics and aluminum products in East Africa.

UST has tapped India for a big source of its labor—it’s a large employer there with operations at three sites.

Its biggest, with 3,200 workers, is in Trivandrum, at the southern tip of India near Sri Lanka. Another facility in Chennai has about 700 workers. A new building in Cochin has about 250 workers.

The company also has smaller offices in Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and Canada.

The Indian sites are made up of primarily engineers who develop, test and maintain customized software for UST’s customers.

For Princess Cruises, UST manages its automated reservation system and network.

“They have the most complex cruise line reservation system in the world,” said Michael Zerkel, general manager of North American operations. “We maintain their entire application globally and augment their staff with our personnel.”

The company is continuing to hire at a rapid clip.

“What we are doing in order to scale at the pace we are talking about, we have to literally hire thousands of people,” Pillai said. “The growth is phenomenal.”

Mondays are always blue. Tired and lazy after hectic weekends, I detest the thought of Monday. It was yet another Monday and I was coming to office in Techno Park. Loads of work to be done, meetings to attend - the day's schedule looked scary.

The bus took the final round turn and stopped. I was standing in front of Bhavani - the building with an air of pride and aristocracy looming over it. The portico appeared deserted, except for a few people who were walking in early on a Monday morning.

A cold wind was blowing and it was drizzling slightly. Still the Sun was trying to come out, golden rays creating a halo over Bhavani. Somewhere in my heart, I heard a voice asking me stand there for a few more minutes. I stood, basking in the glory of the morning Sun, looking at the gleaming water drops which resembled exquisite crystal balls...

'Dil hai ke maanta nahin...' the lilting music was flowing from some distant radio adding to the romance between the gentle sunlight and the morning rain. Mayflowers weaving a red carpet over the winding road, it looked as if the stage was set for a royal wedding. Morning sun, the proud yet gentle bridegroom holding the hands of the beautiful rain maiden, who is the coy bride. Nature seems to have gone into a standstill, presenting a rainbow as the wedding gift. The rainbow stood like a crown spanning across the horizon...

I stood there mesmerized at nature's wonder absorbing the fact that every moment in life is a treasure. Every day, I come here, walk into office and return in the evening. Never did I take a few minutes to watch the movie scripted and directed by Mother Nature. Thus it was a memorable Monday and days will never be blue for me... as every day is a gift and has to be appreciated.

Technology innovators and entrepreneurs from rural Kerala and various engineering colleges in the state would be offered a chance of incubating their ventures towards successful technopreneurship at the Technopark.Proposals in this regard would be evaluated by experts at the Technopark's TePP Outreach Centre (TUC) before inviting the innovators

The innovators would be accommodated at the Technopark- Technology Business Incubator (TBI) for the development of the product and will be given all the mentoring support,The need to support genuine entrepreneurs and innovators from rural Kerala in a bid to help transform their ideas into marketable products came up for a bit of brainstorming at Technopreneur 2008.

The TBI, TUC, TiE Kerala, Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (STED), Infopark, National Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship and CUSAT, organised the session that dwelt upon ‘Promoting business and technology Incubation and building enterprises'.

Targeted at the prospective innovators and faculty members of engineering colleges in Central Kerala comprising Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, Technopreneur 2008 was supported by the central government's Department of Science and Technology (DST), Technology Information Forecasting And Assessment Council (TIFAC) and Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR).

The emphasis was on the need to support genuine entrepreneurs and innovators from rural Kerala, incubate them in the TBI and thereby drive the economic growth of the country.

Hi friends,
It is with extreme indignation that I am writing this mail to you. The quality of food that is being served in restaurants in Bhavani, especially in “Buraq” is becoming worse from bad every other day.
Despite rolling out mails by different customers with pictures of rubber band, worms, cockroach, hair, etc, the plight of those who end up eating from there doesn’t seem to change.
The complacency and the patience that we are showing have been misunderstood for our passiveness and thus we have been taken for granted. Our relentless demand for quality of food at buraq has fallen on deaf ears.
Think about it. Why do we eat from Buraq despite the tragic quality of the over priced food? Convenience and time management would be the only answer.
We are not bothered of the money we pay, the poor treatment we get, but our health should be given more concern. Despite numerous advices, suggestions and warnings, the obstinate approach which Buraq has shown depresses me and increases my righteous anger.
3 unwashed, unclean prawns with half removed shells and sand was served to me with a pile of onions on it on last Wednesday (16th April) and here I am down with a temperature of 103F, bed-ridden with nausea and head ache. Lucky I didn’t go beyond a piece from that dish. You can call on either of my numbers given below and I am willing to give my testimony on this. I am taking this issue up seriously and am escalating this to the management and the Technopark authority as this is a matter of public interest.
Forget about the exorbitant prices and the pathetic service, I appeal to think twice before eating from Buraq as it may jeopardize your health.
If you value your friends health, please forward this to them so that public attention and interest can hopefully reduce these issues from happening in the future.

Tata Elxsi Limited, the technology arm of the multi-billion USD Tata Group, today announced the setting up of two new development centers in Coimbatore and Hyderabad; while further expanding its facility in Thiruvananthapuram to meet the scale-up requirements of the clients.

Biggest ever IT project shaping in State

The biggest- ever IT project of the Kerala Government, Technocity is taking wings. The Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited (KSIIL), the implementing agency of the Technocity, will invite tenders from IT developers and companies on May 28 for starting the Rs 8,000-crore project of the State Government.

The project will come up near the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.

The KSIIL will issue the 49 percent equity of Technocity to the public, private investors, banks and other financial institutions by September this year. The 51 percent equity will be owned by the KSIIL.“The Technocity project will be the biggest ever IT project of Kerala. The project is expected to create around two lakh job opportunities within 10 years and by issuing the share to the public and others, government can start the project with the participation of people,” IT Secretary Ajay Kumar told this website’s newspaper.

The bidding process will be conducted in phases. In the first phase (Request For Qualification) qualified IT companies will be short-listed.In the second phase (Request for Proposal) will be invited and tender will be finalised in December. Different IT companies and IT developers will set up buildings in an area of 2-crore sq ft in the park. The state government will have a stake of 26 percent in the proposed companies. Companies can use 70 percent of space for IT processing and the remaining for other purposes.“We are trying to sell our project across the globe and attract IT giants to the state. The project will generate more job opportunities than the Smart City Kochi. More IT giants can start their ventures at the Technocity than the Smart City Kochi,” said Ajay Kumar.The estimated infrastructure of the project will be Rs 800 to 1,000 crore. Of this, 500 crore will be utilised for purchasing land near the Technopark and Rs 300 crore will be spent for the infrastructure like water and power supply.

Cricket League in Technopark

UST Global which is the largest company in Technopark having over 4500 employees working out of its Technopark center came out with an innovative idea to engage its employees.

UCL-UST Cricket League was a stage to vent the energy and exuberance that gets clogged in cubicles.

Over 8 months, over 80 teams, over 8 matches a day, over 1200 participants. That’s UCL.

Started on an experimental basis, this event has turned out to be the most successful organizational initiative in the history of UST.

The participation from the ladies side which was made mandatory in UCL added to the uniqueness of the success of this maiden venture. A team needed to have at least two woman members in its side!

Every thing including arranging infrastructure from ground, cricket gear etc to drinking water and recording and archiving the details of every single ball bowled in the tournament which is a tumultuous and gargantuan task was handled by the employees.

One of the greatest achievements of the UCL was the unveiling the UCL trophy by the esteemed partners from HEB (Rick and Jim). They, cricket enthusiasts also played a game with the UST leaders Niketh Sundar (Global HR Head) and Alexander Varghese(Centre Head - Trivandrum) and the UCL officiates.

Shashi Tharoor's professional training academy opened at technopark

Former UN under-secretary general Shashi Tharoor's professional training academy opened at the Technopark campus,for bettering the business communication and technical skills of professionals, including fresh recruits, working in the knowledge and service industries.

Quoting heads of Technopark-based firms with whom he had interacted recently, Mr. Tharoor said most young employees had a “book knowledge of English.” They could write a paper, but could not speak their ideas confidently in English. Hence, such employees, even though highly talented, could not be presented before foreign clients.

He said his academy had hired the services of eminent U.S.-based speech language pathologist Tina L. Parson as executive director (training). She had designed a course which used the latest computer-based interactive voice recognition software for training students. Mr. Tharoor said the idea was not to make Malayalis sound like Americans but to help them communicate clearly.

The academy will offer a limited number of scholarships for trainees from poor families. The two-month course will cost a student approximately Rs.30,000. A batch will consist of 20 students. Application forms can be downloaded from the academy’s website http://www.aabc.in

One more training accademy also will be launched by the CMC Limited, an IT solutions provider, will open the second such facility, a technical school for improving the soft skills of young graduates freshly-recruited by global businesses, in September this year. IT professionals in Kerala, Land mafia's primary prey. - A shocking report

Strange as it may seem, IT professionals are building up the "land mafia" in Kerala. What's more, they are converting their tax-payed white money into black money - and they don't even seem to know it.Unlike most states, Keralites don't invest in businesses is Kerala.

While the land is flush with NRI money, most of it is directed into palatial houses and real estate. Lack of investments in business has meant that a good number of youth has gone into lucrative but illegal activities, promoted by the so-called mafias - land mafia, spirit mafia, quarry mafia, sand-ming mafia etc. (In the strict sense of the word, none of this has achieved the level of "mafia", which is actually a parallel government. At least, not yet!)

Of these, the one that has raised eyebrows of the central investigating agencies (DRI, ED, CBI, IB) is the sudden growth of "land-mafia". Kerala is a small state with a high density of population, and naturally, land prices are on the higher side. Inward remittances from the Gulf already existed, but the growth in IT sector has meant that a lot more young people have a high disposable income in their hands. Unlike in the past when investment was limited to bank deposits or land, many more investment avenues exist now, like a well-controlled equity market and mutual funds (India has one of the most transparent mutual fund industry in the world). However, either due to ignorance or risk-awareness, those in IT still invest a good deal of their money in real estate. Most financial planners agree that the value of one's real estate investment should not be more than 25% of one's entire asset, but for IT professionals in Kerala, it is much higher, sometimes more than 100% (which means they are in debt due to loans). Buying flats to give out on rent is even worse - as any qualified advisor will tell you: the yield from them is less than bank FDs, even after including tax rebates. The current trend is based more on emotion and "also-ran", rather than reason and facts. Banks have no problems in disbursing such loans to IT professionals though, due to their high income earning capacity.

Many middlemen have used these sunshine days to buy huge tracts of land from ordinary folks who reside in and around urban areas. What is alarming, however, is the arrival of "container money". Last year, fake Indian currencies worth crores (thought to be printed at government security presses of neighbouring countries) have been seized from ships and containers at Kochi. DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) officials believe what has been caught is only the tip of the iceberg. Larger amounts have already passed into our economy. The only area where such huge amounts of money could change hands is the real estate sector, since other areas are now pretty well regulated by the Central Government. Since only 20-30% of the actual sale value is shown in the land records, and the rest changes hands as solid cash, a good amount of it is thought to be fake currency..

One significant point is the history of the real estate developers. Only a very few have been around for years. Most others have arrived, under the pretense of "Gulf" money. Coincidently, the above-mentioned containers too have arrived from the Persian Gulf. There is probably only one developer, Sobha Developers, who release their audited figures to the public. Others are private limited companies and apparently find no reason to release their figures, even after all the charges against the real estate developers. Building rules are nonchalantly violated by many newly constructed flats. For example, the building codes specify that there should be enough space around the apartment so that a standard fire engine can reach anywhere around the building. Look around in the city. At some flats, even a Maruti Zen would find that difficult!

IT professionals, by scorning other investment avenues, seems to be promoting the cause of the fraudulent real estate industry. Their readiness to buy land or flats at abysmally high rates enable the unscrupulous builders and their agents continue to thrive. (Amazingly, a flat at Kazhakootam anywhere near Technopark in Trivandrum costs as much as one at Hyderabad HiTech City? The internal finish of the ones at Trivandrum, however, are hopelessly pedestrian). The IT professionals buy the land or flat in the hope that land prices fetch highest returns. True, land prices do escalate faster than most other avenues (except probably stocks), but when they try to sell the land, they will be surprised to find that no one would be willing to buy it in "white". In essence, if they do sell, they have actually converted their white money (when they had bought the land) into unaccountable black money. Bonus: Risk of the gotten black money being counterfeit is extra!

What a pity will it be when the IT professionals, who has sacrificed a lot for the economic spurt of this state, are themselves responsible for destabilising it. Whether they would continue to invest in land and flats or invest in much more productive and legitimate avenues, would determine whether this land would fall to the mafia -this time, in all sense of the word.

TechTop competetion in Technopark

TechTop 2008, a competition for the best engineering project to be held at the Technopark campus here in August. The two-day event, beginning on August 18, will be organised by Technopark and the Indian arm of the US-based Degree Controls Inc. and supported by the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Executive Knowledge Lines.

The competition is held to promote the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among students. The selected projects will be eligible for incubation support from Technopark. The most innovative, socially relevant and commercially exploitable projects will be eligible for the Degree C award comprising a cash prize Rs.1 lakh.

The theme for this year’s contest is ‘Rural technology and global warming.’

Earlier this year, project synopses were received from about 1400 AICTE-approved colleges and universities in the country. Over 90 project synopses were also received from 12 States namely, Haryana, UP, Arunachal Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The project ideas were in the disciplines of Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Chemical, and Textile Technology

Now, 33 projects are short listed.of these, 33 have been selected by a high-level screening committee comprising subject experts drawn from the academia, industry and research institutions for the final phase of the competition to be held in Technopark. The working models of the projects will be demonstrated before a high level committee.

“The motto behind this contest is to promote and reward innovative ideas of our budding engineers and to create and innovation and entrepreneurship climate in India,” says Technopark CEO, R K Nair.

In 2007, the Degree C cash prize was won by Kongu Engineering College from Tamil Nadu for their radio frequency identification-based rationing system. The second prize of Rs.25,000 went to PES College from Maharashtra for their project ‘aqua silencer.’

Technopark firm Accentia acquires U.S. company

It seems the take over game is repeating in IT industry after the giant take overs by Indian steel and pharmacy companies.

Accentia Technologies, a Technopark- based firm specialising in Healthcare Receivables Cycle Management (HRCM) has taken over the New Jersey (US)-based Oak Technologies and its subsidiary company, Vasant Scribes, operating from Hyderabad.

Accentia Technologies is one of the prime companies in technopark with a huge employee base and revenue.
